Since 1958, The Bristowe has extended and enriched the lives of so many people in so many ways in their senior years. By encouraging independence in their own apartments, taking away the hassle of daily chores, giving residents flexibility in their day to day lives and being part of a family with good community spirit we have shown why we have been unique, pioneering and enhances the retired people that have stayed here. Here are just a few of the reasons why we are better than the rest.

Fine Dining

Ever since The Bristowe began as a guest house we have provided nutritious home-cooked meals to all our residents and their guests. We offer a five course evening meal including cheese and coffee. We serve dinner in our dining room which is attractively designed to make it feel like you are dining out for a meal every night. With a minimum of two choices per course and NO rota we pride ourselves on delivering a good balance diet and you get the benefit of chatting to other residents about your day.

Blue flag beach

Southbourne is a relaxed, but still bustling locale which enables locals to shop/eat and drink whilst escaping the busier areas of Bournemouth town centre. The main area of Southbourne is Southbourne Grove, a long shopping street that has some unique and individual shops rather than high street chain shops. Another area is Southbourne Crossroads, which is further east towards Hengistbury Head. Seafield Gardens is a public open space which has, since 2001, won a Green Flag Award; it offers various outdoor facilities, including bowls and tennis. It also features a watertower. The easternmost part of the area is called Hengistbury Head.

Southbourne’s primary attraction is its sandy Blue Flag beach, which provides a quieter retreat from the more crowded beach along the coast at Bournemouth. Between the clifftop coastal road and the promenade and beach is the Fisherman’s Walk Cliff Railway, a railway that provides very easy access to Southbourne beach, and from where it is possible to reach the beaches at Boscombe and Bournemouth.

At The Bristowe we put on events designed with our residents in mind. Bingo, Film Afternoons and Knitting Hour are just some of the things you can participate in but we also put on themed nights for example Burns Night, St. Georges Day and Banquet Buffet Nights.

We also hold events for the community. We are able to put on coffee mornings for local groups but also hold events for local charities including Macmillan Caring Locally which benefitted from our Bubbles and Buns Day.

Family run

The Bristowe Retirement Apartments always was and always will be a family run business. In 1958 Mrs Yvonne Johnstone and her husband Tom bought The Grange Guest House and ably assisted by her parents and daughter Tina she pioneered a new way of living. Tina Gadd and Mrs Johnstone created lifestyle unique for retired people. Now nearly 60 years on the same family still run the business with grandsons Matthew and Thomas at the helm.

Support 24/7

At The Bristowe we encourage you to be as independent as you can for as long as you can and we are here to provide support as and when you need it. Being a family business we live on site so we can be at your side when you require. Whether it is someone to chat to throughout the day or in need of a little bit of help at night we are only a call away 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Why should I rent instead of buying?

We all know that our home is our castle and we generally love to own our property that we worked so hard to afford and enjoy but what are the alternatives.

Thinking of buying a retirement property? STOP! Here are some great reasons to rent instead:

Release the capital in its entirety from your home and enjoy your retirement.

Greater flexibility and convenience

If you need or want to move or possibly your health declines you are not tied into a long contract. A month’s notice and you can move.

If the move is not right for you, you can relocate without the trouble of settling contracts and other legal issues.

No estate agents fees on top of the hassle and worry of buying and selling property. Especially in difficult economic times.

Knowing exactly what you will pay each month. No extra costs for work in and around your home.

No extra service or maintenance charges. All in one monthly account package.

Reduces any aggravation attached to wills and testaments and can help in future inheritance tax planning.

At The Bristowe, you live your life your way. You still have complete independence and the freedom to go about your daily routine how you want to.

The Bristowe Retirement Apartments has everything you need to retire in a hassle free environment with all those chores and worries taken away. With community spirit, independence and the chance to join the extended Bristowe family, living here really is the best way to retire.
